Emergency Services Exercise

Search and rescue services from around north Queensland amassed in Townsville on Saturday to undertake a series of simulated missions staged to check their competency.

Water police, SES, Volunteer Coast Guard, Volunteer Marine Rescue, Emergency Management Queensland, the Queensland ambulance service, and state emergency helicopter worked together on the exercises which serve as practice and performance check.

Whatever happened to that vessel "Earthrace"?

Although we could provide radio coverage and assistance from Queensland to Tasmania, we unfortunately had no idea as what was to follow. Not long after "Earthrace" changed her name to 'Ady Gil', she was struck by a Japanese whaling boat and sank.

In a interview conducted by an ABC reporter, the skipper at the time Pete Bethune had said that if the boat wasn't sold, then they might head south and take on the Japanese whalers
